Another finished print to share! After the previous demonstration of a large 1:1 car brake caliper, we were commissioned by a client to prototype a 1:1 car headlight housing. This time, we used the Ultimaker S5 to print it in two separate parts and assemble them, and it was a success!
Sharp-eyed fans might recognize that it made a mysterious guest appearance at the 3D Printing Show in early September! Now, let's take a look at how it came to be!
Even when divided into two parts, this size was more challenging than the previous brake caliper. We used the Ultimaker S5 and PLA, along with the super helper PVA water-soluble support, to complete it. The printing took five days, and as you can see in the photos, the height almost reached the top of the 3D printer.

To faithfully present the results to our clients, we opened the door of the Ultimaker S5 and took photos from different angles before disassembly. Previously, the front of Ultimaker's 3D printers had an open design. The Ultimaker S5's addition of magnetic door panels helps maintain temperature and isolate environmental changes, which reduces warping.

The Ultimaker S5's dual extrusion system with PVA water-soluble support is very convenient and is our most commonly used printing method. For complex samples with snap-fit designs like this, it eliminates the hassle of post-processing and ensures that the model body won't be damaged during the process.

After about two days, the PVA had completely dissolved. We took photos from various angles so everyone could see the details clearly. The snap-fit features and structural contours were very precise and complete. The application of PVA indeed yielded great results. Our FDM-based printing service uses Ultimaker 3D printers to deliver high-quality 3D prints to customers.

Finally, the two large components were joined together to complete the piece. We also included a scale ruler so everyone can see just how big it is.

For those who missed the 3D Printing Show, don't worry! We will also be exhibiting at the Taipei Cycle Show at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 3 from October 31st to November 3rd this year. Everyone is welcome to visit, learn, and receive gifts. All the latest news and promotional information will be announced on our Facebook page as soon as possible. Follow us to stay updated!
