【3D Printing Applications】The Secret to 3D Printing for Investment Casting: PolyCast

【3D Printing Applications】The Mystery of 3D Printing to Casting: PolyCast

3DMart has shared many success stories about metal casting. Besides the finished products, are you curious about the production process? The following video takes you inside the factory to show you how lost-wax casting creates perfect metal parts!

.New Form of Lost-Wax Casting

Traditional lost-wax casting requires preliminary work where craftsmen manually sculpt wax molds based on planar diagrams, with repeated communication and refinements, before proceeding to mold making. If structural changes are needed during this process, it takes even more time and steps. Nowadays, more and more people are using 3D printing for prototyping, which can be completed within a day or even hours, right within the company. You can even compare the physical 3D printed model with other assembly parts and perform simple tests. If modifications are needed, you only need to adjust the 3D drawing and print again, then directly proceed to the metal casting step.

.3D Printing Filament Specifically Designed for Casting

This special filament, PolyCast, is categorized under Polymaker's Specialty series, designed specifically for lost-wax casting, offering a more economical and faster application model. Using PolyCast filament with a 3D printer can significantly reduce complex processing steps and costs, and greatly accelerate product delivery times.

.Two Technologies, a Perfect Match: Layer-Free and Ash-Free

.Layer-Free Technology:
Place the PolyCast 3D printed part in a misty alcohol vapor environment. The entire process will be automatically completed in the Polysher alcohol polisher. This principle works by using a rapidly vibrating "nebulizer" inside the alcohol polisher to generate alcohol vapor. When the surface texture of the 3D printed product absorbs alcohol particles, a chemical change occurs, making the surface smooth, glossy, and polished (further reading: 3D Printing Polishing Time-lapse Video).

.Ash-Free Technology:
When PolyCast filament is used for lost-wax casting, it burns cleanly without leaving any residue. These clean molds can be used to create flawless metal parts. This technology has led to increasing applications of 3D printing in lost-wax casting, significantly reducing the high costs and production time previously associated with CNC machining or mold manufacturing for small batches of metal parts.

.Manufacture Your 3D Printed Parts with PolyCast

The good news is that while 3DMart previously only offered casting services through partnerships, it is now open for online sales! In addition to commissioning us for casting services, those who own a 3D printer can also purchase PolyCast filament from our store to create anything they desire.
Using PolyCast specialty filament with an Ultimaker 3D printer to produce cast parts results in economical, high-quality industrial-grade effects. Best of all, this allows for rapid adjustments and prototyping iterations to be done in-house. We are delighted to see all the contributions of 3D printing technology to industrial progress.
