【3D Printing Beginner's Guide】Learn to use Bambu Lab 3D Printer in one minute - How to print in multiple colors?

Multi-color printing is one of Bambu Lab's most impressive features. We've noticed that many makers are unfamiliar with the AMS automatic material system of their new Bambu Lab 3D printer. You might encounter similar situations, such as: How do I change filament in the AMS? What is the process for multi-color 3D printing?
This article condenses all steps into a practical AMS tutorial video to help you quickly learn and get hands-on!

【Step 1】Equipment Preparation - Configure Filament Information

Before using Bambu Lab's multi-color printing feature, you need to load the AMS and configure the corresponding filament information. If you're using Bambu Lab's official filament, the AMS will automatically identify the filament type and color via RFID. If you're using third-party filament, you'll need to manually configure this information. Here are the specific steps:

 1. Load the AMS
       • Open the AMS and insert the filament into the designated slot as instructed.
       • If it's Bambu Lab official filament, the AMS will automatically read the RFID and identify the filament information.

  2. Configure Filament Information (for third-party filament)
       • Open the AMS configuration interface.
       • Select the slot to configure and manually enter the filament type and color information.

【Step 2】Bambu Studio Setup

  1. Manage Filaments in Project
In the left sidebar of the project, you can see all the filament listings:

     • Add filament: Click the ➕ button to add new filament to the project.
     • Delete filament: Click the ➖ button to delete the last filament.

  2. Single Color Painting

     • Select the "object" whose color you want to change.
     • In the object list in the left sidebar, click on "Object" and then press the color block to select your desired color.

  3. Multi-color / Local Painting

Click "Paint" ➡︎ in the top right "Filament" first choose your desired color.

 • Circle: Like a paintbrush, it can apply color on a flat surface.
     • Sphere: Colors the "spherical" area within the model.
     • Triangle: Colors any "triangular" area within the model.
     • Height Range: For large area coloring, the range can be adjusted.
     • Fill: Automatically detects "special shapes" for local coloring.
     • Gap Fill: Can color "concave" surfaces.

【Step 3】Slicing & Sending to Print

   1. Slice and import to SD card:
Slice using Bambu Studio, no need to pre-select AMS slot information.
Import the sliced file to the SD card.

   2.
Select file on printer and print:
Select the print file from the SD card on the printer, and the printer will automatically match the filament.
If you need to modify the automatic matching, you can manually select the corresponding slots for colors on the printer screen.
