【3D Printing Application】NAVAIR equips US military with Ultimaker 3D printers!

MatterHackers, a renowned retailer of 3D printers and materials, has secured a 5-year, up to $5 million 3D printing military contract with the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR)! This marks NAVAIR's largest desktop 3D printer military contract to date, through which MatterHackers will deploy 75 Level 1 Additive Manufacturing Systems, including 3D printers and industrial-grade materials, by 2025. The contract also includes ongoing training and personalized support.

3D Printing Applications at NAVAIR
This contract will place Ultimaker S5 desktop polymer systems into NAVSEA's Fleet Readiness Centers, Marine Corps Aviation Logistics Squadrons, and their associated expeditionary forces, giving soldiers the ability to print critical parts urgently.

As early as 2016, NAVAIR successfully 3D printed critical flight components for an aircraft for the first time, and it flew successfully. A year later, NAVAIR requested its sister organization, the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), to use 3D printed life-saving components on Osprey training aircraft.

By 2018, approximately 1000 3D printed parts were in use across the military. A 3D printed antenna mount was developed for the US Navy's MH-60S Seahawk helicopters. NAVAIR also invested in additive manufacturing data specialist Senvol to further develop its machine learning software to optimize 3D printed components and technologies.
