【Vacuum Forming Applications】Perfectly Covering Right-Angle Shapes with 2 Tips for Better Demolding!
Is your vacuum forming not fitting snugly enough? Is it difficult to remove molds after cooling? Now, there's no need to manually drill holes, and even 90-degree cut-angle objects are no problem. Get perfect, tight coverage and improve your demolding results with these 2 tips!
The technical principle of a vacuum forming machine is to heat and soften a plastic sheet, then press down the vacuum-formed injection sheet to conform to the surface of the blister mold. It is shaped at high temperature and set after cooling. From "silicone demolding", "food craftsmanship", "mold development", "blister packaging", and "medical aids", these techniques are now widely combined and used.

The two main factors affecting the quality of vacuum forming are whether the airflow can smoothly circulate between the material sheet and the workpiece during the vacuuming process, and the complexity of the object's shape. To improve quality, people usually manually drill holes or avoid 90-degree right-angle cut shapes when designing molds to ensure that the material sheet and the object fit tightly. There are two other tips to choose from to improve demolding results:
・Flexible material sheets
Choosing flexible material sheets provides a better wrapping effect when pressed down instantly after heating, compared to other rigid sheets. Also, because they retain their original flexible properties after cooling, objects can be removed from the material sheet more easily. (Using FormBox Flex flexible material sheets for vacuum forming allows for easy demolding even after cooling and setting.)
・Dense holes in the metal platform
The surface of the Mayku Pro Mesh metal work platform is made of ultra-fine 1.2mm stainless steel, with over 1000 small holes. Compared to the original perforated work platform equipped with the Formbox machine, it allows more air to escape from around the vacuum forming mold.

The dense arrangement of small holes in the Pro Mesh allows air to flow smoothly through the mesh, ensuring a tighter fit at the edges during instantaneous vacuum forming, resulting in a sharper and cleaner finished product. The fish scales on the Taiyaki in the image above can thus achieve a more refined concave-convex effect while maintaining a smooth and flat surface, allowing even complex shapes to be formed smoothly.
