【3D Printing】Prusa EasyPrint: Slicing on Your Mobile Device!
Josef Průša:Ever since I built my first 3D printer, I've been striving to make 3D printing more accessible.
Part of that was dreaming of a slicer that could run on any device, run incredibly smoothly, and be usable by anyone.
We've finally made it a reality! After countless hours of development and testing, I'm proud to introduce Prusa EasyPrint!
It's a game-changer: slicing on phones and tablets has never been this easy.
Removing the Barrier of Slicing – What is EasyPrint?
While many of us are perfectly accustomed to dragging and dropping models into PrusaSlicer and selecting a preset profile, for a beginner, it's not as straightforward as it sounds.
Just needing to install a new application presents a minor inconvenience.
Then you also have to import the correct profile for your printer.
You have to know where to click to select the right material, and so on.
With EasyPrint, all of this is streamlined and incredibly simple.
It's the easiest and most seamless slicing you've ever experienced.
You browse Printables on your phone, computer, or tablet.
Find a model you like, and with a single click, you're directly in the 3D preview.
It automatically detects your printer in PrusaConnect, applies the correct profile, and you just hit "Print."
It has a lot of convenient and intuitive features. If you want, you can quickly move, rotate, or scale models, use the Place on Face feature, automatically arrange multiple models on one or more virtual print beds, and more.
We even implemented a simple "shopping cart" for Printables, so you can add more models to it while browsing Printables and then print them all at once.

You can also change basic settings – print quality, infill, supports, and so on.
That's it, anything more complex is intentionally kept behind the scenes and configured automatically.
Remember when we launched Printables and emphasized the ability to share G-code?
The goal is the same: to make 3D printing more accessible.
Who is EasyPrint for?
Beginners: If you're new to 3D printing, slicing can feel overwhelming, but EasyPrint removes that barrier.
No complex setups, no profile configurations – just click, slice, and print.
Anyone can do it, no experience required. No guides and tutorials needed.
Chromebook Users (Schools): No need to install specialized software or overcome system limitations.
Students and teachers can simply open a tab, prepare their 3D models, and send them to print.
Or download the G-code to a USB stick.
Tablet Power Users: Modeling in Shapr3D on an iPad?
You don't need to transfer files to your computer for slicing.
Your Non-3D Printing Relatives and Friends: Tired of being the "3D printing specialist" in your life?
Now, your partner, kids, siblings, or parents can handle their own projects.
Slicing on the Go: If you're already familiar with slicers, Prusa EasyPrint is still incredibly convenient.
You can start a print from your phone while relaxing on the couch – perfect when you know you'll be using default settings anyway.

How Does It Work?
We're sure this will be copied very soon, so there's no reason to keep how it works a secret.
Prusa EasyPrint is a clean, responsive web application that lets you move 3D models and set some basic settings.
It's tightly integrated with our services like Printables and the mobile Prusa app, so it knows which printers you have, what materials are loaded, and if your printer is ready.
It can easily import models from Printables, or you can import them from local storage.
Once you hit print, it sends the entire scene to PrusaSlicer running on powerful servers, which generates the G-code and sends it to your printer.

If you're reading this, you might be thinking: Oh no – this is another way to lock users into a cloud platform.
I really hope you'll consider this, as it's an important issue today.
Let me explain why this isn't the case here.
First, Prusa EasyPrint is completely optional.
You can continue to use PrusaSlicer locally on your computer if you wish, and not touch Prusa EasyPrint at all.
In fact, Prusa EasyPrint isn't really a slicer – it's a web front-end that generates 3MF files compatible with most modern slicers.
The interface runs on your device, while the actual slicing happens in the cloud on our servers.
We use the same version of PrusaSlicer as the public release; you can find its source code on GitHub.
The web front-end is not open source (similar to Printables or PrusaConnect), however, since the front-end relies on PrusaSlicer and its performance and features, we are more motivated than ever to continue improving our standalone application.
In fact, one of my favorite features is how seamlessly the two work together.

You can always click a button to download your project and open it in PrusaSlicer on your computer.
Everything – models, orientation, settings – is saved as a 3MF file.
From there, you can fine-tune it with advanced tools like paint-on supports or custom modifiers.
Then, you can simply export the G-code file, put it on a USB drive, or send it to your printer over the local network.
Most importantly, there's no other way to enable slicing on, say, a $200 Android tablet and phone. Believe me, we tried.
The basic requirements (like RAM limitations) on such devices are so strict that our attempts failed, so at least for the foreseeable future, this is the only way to provide this functionality.
I also hope our track record speaks for itself.
Security is one of our key selling points, and our printers are found in top companies, universities, and research institutions worldwide.

The application is designed to run all PrusaSlicer-derived slicers (Orca, BambuStudio, and many others) interchangeably on the backend.
So I'll let slip a little secret: we plan to open this functionality to non-Prusa 3D printer users in the future.
Of course, the timing is not yet certain, as we need to gather all the information from testing, and we need to ensure everything is stable after accommodating all Prusa users.
3D printing should be accessible to everyone. We don't want to build any walled gardens.
In fact, quite the opposite – we want to make 3D printing easier for everyone.
Using with Offline Printers
We've added an "Add Offline Printer" button, allowing you to select printers not connected to the internet.
So you can use cloud slicing and the simple user interface to slice models for printers that operate offline.
Finally, you just download the G-code and transfer it to the printer via USB/SD card.

Feedback Needed!
This is just the beginning. We know there's room for improvement, such as deeper mobile app integration and more features.
If you've tried Prusa EasyPrint, let us know what you think.
