【Event Recap】Sponsoring NTU Hackathon: Bambu Lab 3D Printer for Better Living Design Competition

【Event Review】Sponsored National Taiwan University Makerthon: Bambu Lab 3D Printer Design Competition for Life Improvement
We are delighted to sponsor the Makerthon hosted by National Taiwan University, an event aimed at encouraging innovation and improving quality of life. This event will combine hardware implementation, software development, and product design, allowing participants to bring their creative ideas to life in a short period and create tangible products that are relevant to daily life.

Makerthon Event Overview

The core theme of this Makerthon is hardware implementation, complemented by software development and product design. Participants will engage in hands-on creation to find solutions and strive to produce tangible works that closely relate to daily life. This is not only a stage to showcase creativity and technology but also a platform to foster exchange and collaboration, hoping to bring positive change and innovation to society.

The main awards are divided into four categories: "Best Application", "Best Creativity", "Best Maker", and "Best Solver". The judges for the main awards will evaluate the entries based on four criteria: "Prototype Implementation", "Technical Application", "Creative Conception", and "Applicability", with scores ranging from 0 to 10.

The evaluation criteria for the 2024 competition are:

  • Prototype Implementation: Completeness of the overall system design (hardware mechanism, software, software-hardware integration), and its relevance to the event theme (ExplorEr).
  • Technicality: The ability to use development boards, integrate various electronic components, skillfully operate various machinery and instruments, and whether the most feasible technology was applied to solve problems and demonstrate practical skills.
  • Creative Conception: The problem solved or the application of technology is refreshing, presenting highly creative ideas.
  • Applicability: The potential of the work to actually solve problems in daily life, contribute to society, and its commercialization potential, such as the product's practicality, sufficient target audience, production costs, differentiation from other products, quality, etc.

3D Printer
CompetitionRequirements

The competition lasted 24 hours, with 43 groups participating. There were only 4 printers available. After accounting for buffer and setup time, each group had an average of 1 hour of printing time. This means that the 3D printers used in the competition needed to have extremely high stability and efficient printing to allow students to complete their ideal projects within the given time.

Why Bambu Lab 3D printers were chosen for the competition

Among many 3D printer brands, why choose it? Bambu Lab 3D printers are not just eye-catching products online; we also found many features suitable for a design competition, making them the ideal choice for this NTU EECS Makerthon:

1. Multi-material compatibility
Bambu Lab 3D printers offer versatility and can handle various printing needs. They support a variety of printing materials, including PLA, ABS, carbon fiber, etc. The X1E 3D printer model can
simultaneously handle complex printing tasks.

2. High precision, low failure rate

Bambu Lab offers excellent printing accuracy, capable of producing detailed models and parts. Precise printing results are crucial for projects requiring high accuracy. The built-in automatic leveling and compensation significantly reduce printing failure rates!

The image above shows a group of students making a lifting system, and the parts worked successfully on the first print.

Another group of students custom-made a screen frame to their exact dimensions, allowing the display to fit perfectly. They also specially designed a 0.1cm groove for the screen to sit securely within the frame.

3. Easy to use
Bambu Lab 3D printers are designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind. Even beginners can quickly get started with printing. They are suitable for various application scenarios, including education, design, and prototyping, with broad application prospects.

4. Openness
Bambu Lab's Makerworld is an open 3D printing community, allowing users to customize and modify as needed. It also supports various file formats, including STL, OBJ, etc., making it convenient for users to import different design files for printing and extending the machine's functionality and application range!

5. High-speed printing
Despite its high precision, Bambu Lab 3D printers maintain a reasonable printing speed, ensuring a balance between efficiency and quality.

6. Remote monitoring

During the competition, the staff were also very busy. Through remote control and monitoring of printing tasks, one laptop could monitor the status of four 3D printers simultaneously. Mobile phones could also send notifications reminding you that printing was successful, allowing immediate removal of printed items, or notifying you of printing failures and their causes. This allowed on-site personnel to effectively distribute their efforts to assist with other matters, rather than having to constantly watch the 3D printers.

7. Cost-effectiveness
Overall, Bambu Lab 3D printers offer excellent performance and features at a relatively reasonable price, making the barrier to entry very low and acquisition relatively simple.

Bambu Lab Color 3D Printers will be one of the important tools in this design competition. These printers offer high resolution and excellent print quality, allowing participants to turn their concepts into reality. Whether it's printing practical everyday items, creating unique design prototypes, or showcasing socially impactful solutions!

The spirit of this event is to inspire innovation and collaboration, allowing young students to unleash their creativity and jointly explore the integration of technology and design. We look forward to seeing amazing works in this competition and providing support and encouragement to the participants.
