[3D Printing Lecture] MakeNTU 2024 Workshop Recap

【3D Printing Lecture】2024 NTUEE MakeNTU Workshop Recap

We were delighted to participate once again in the 2024 NTUEE MakeNTU event. To ensure the smooth running of the MakeNTU competition from May 4-5, students first learned the basic concepts and knowledge of 3D printing, followed by hands-on practical application. 3DMart staff specially prepared 3D slicing software and provided practical instruction on equipment, including normal slicing, multi-color printing, support settings, filament changes, basic machine precautions, and maintenance. We also listened to students' diverse design ideas and needs. In the workshop, we guided students from zero experience to use Bambu Lab series 3D printers, and then actually operate and test their desired 3D printed works!

What is Make NTU?
The 2024 MakeNTU event is themed "ExplorEr" and adheres to the philosophy "We need it, we create it." The event hopes that participants can identify problems in daily life, combine their learned knowledge and skills, embody the Maker spirit, put their ideas into practice, and give back to society. Participants are encouraged to break away from existing knowledge and technical frameworks, think from new perspectives, and create impactful works.

"Hardware-Software Integration" as the main focus: Emphasizing practical hardware implementation, supplemented by software development and product design. Participants need to create physical works that are relevant to daily life within a short period.
Emphasis on "Cooperation and Exchange": Connecting outstanding students from across Taiwan to promote exchange and collaboration among different fields, driving technological development.
Focus on "Corporate Connection": Building a bridge for cooperation between enterprises and participants, encouraging companies to offer internship or job opportunities to excellent participants, promoting industry-academia linkage, and extending the value of the event.

Through these efforts, the MakeNTU event hopes that participants will be brave enough to explore various ideas and creativity, and create novel and practical inventions to solve real-life problems.

Workshop Highlights

For this workshop, we specially selected the highly acclaimed Bambu Lab desktop full-color 3D printers: X1 Carbon Combo, P1S Combo, and X1E 3D printer. Unlike previous 3D printers, these models combine printing speed and quality with extremely simple and intuitive software operation. Previously, understanding 3D printer installation, calibration, testing, slicing software, and complex parameter settings could take a long time, but with Bambu Lab, it can be completed in 20-30 minutes.
NTU students can bring their various creative ideas to life in the shortest possible time. This is especially beneficial for beginners, allowing for quick and easy mastery. Participants do not need overly specialized knowledge to rely on its powerful features to print finished products, thus allowing them to focus more on product design itself, realize their innovative concepts, and transform them into concrete practical works.

We specially prepared 3D printed works and samples that we personally made on-site, all completed using the Bambu Lab X1 Carbon Combo, P1S Combo, and X1E 3D printers, for students to reference for size and complexity. We also openly shared our printing experience and professional techniques.

Course Content
 • Introduction to the features of various machines
 • First-time 3D printing process
 • How to perform multicolor printing - slicing software techniques
 • Students' hands-on machine operation

In the brief introduction to the features of various machines, the different characteristics of each machine were highlighted, such as: semi-automatic belt tensioning, the internal intelligent control system of the print head, and constant temperature control inside the machine enclosure. These details determine the 3D printer's renowned speed and quality control in the industry!

The instructor also meticulously explained the steps for using the slicing software "Bambu Studio" and the parameters for various printed objects, including: layer height, internal and external strength, supports, and printing speed. Students were able to observe more concretely using our prepared samples, and then apply this knowledge to their competition projects.

Students eager to win prizes actively vied for on-site trial prints and eagerly asked questions from various perspectives. We truly hope to ensure that participating students can fully utilize their potential and create astonishing works.

Because we are familiar with and trust the Bambu Lab series 3D printers, before the lecture, we spontaneously printed a David statue on the spot as a gift. It only
took less than 1.6 hours and the quality was excellent!

After the intensive 3D printing lecture workshop, we believe that the participating students have gained a lot! 3DMart hopes everyone can use what they've learned to shine in the competition! See you on competition day!
