【3D Printing News】Snapmaker Artisan 3-in-1, Evolved! 300-degree Dual Extruder and 10W Laser Head Make a Powerful Entrance!
Snapmaker is a well-known 3-in-1 3D printer in the industry, and recently, its latest generation, the Snapmaker Artisan, was released. The Snapmaker Artisan inherits all the features of its predecessor, with a metallic body, and can easily switch between the 3D printing module, CNC carving module, and 10W laser engraving module.
This time, the 3D printing module has been upgraded, with the company increasing the nozzle temperature to 300 °C and enabling dual extrusion! These two upgrades benefit many manufacturers with higher demands. Additionally, it boasts a print volume of 350 x 400 x 400mm, as well as 400 x 400mm for CNC and 10W laser engraving. This easily surpasses the largest size of the Snapmaker 2.0. In the Artisan generation, switching between modules is faster, replacing the old screw system with a lever-locking mechanism. Snapmaker states that swapping between all three modules takes only 60 seconds.

This new module switching mechanism indeed highlights a past issue with Snapmaker. A large part of Snapmaker's marketing for its first machine was the continuous release of add-ons to further increase functionality and ongoing support for subsequent system modules. However, neither promise was fully delivered. Later, when the 10W laser module for Snapmaker 2.0 was released, Snapmaker announced it would be compatible with upcoming machines.
The launch of the Artisan comes shortly after an update to the Snapmaker 2.0 version, which included some hardware optimizations. This further complicates compatibility issues. Will Snapmaker provide a workaround for previous modules to adapt to the new locking mechanism, or will older modules be compatible with this new system? More information from Snapmaker is needed to know.
The Artisan comes with a 10W laser engraving module, which is different from the 1.6W laser module of Snapmaker 2.0, so if you choose the new generation machine, you might not miss the old module. Regardless, that old promise might still sting.
In addition to a more powerful laser engraving module, the Snapmaker Artisan comes with a plug-in emergency stop button from the Snapmaker 2.0.
As for other upgrades, the marketing materials promise fast 3D printing, with print speeds ranging from 150-180mm/s. Unlike most promises of fast 3D printing on new hardware, Snapmaker specifies a dimensional accuracy of ±0.1mm at such speeds. For a Cartesian XZ head combination like the Artisan, achieving this is certainly impressive.

However, the Artisan's claimed print speeds have successfully attracted a lot of interest. Snapmaker is heavily promoting its new linear rails, dubbed "next-generation linear modules." This component even takes center stage in the Snapmaker Artisan Blog, suggesting that the Artisan will be a series delving deeply into features and development. Linear rails and tracks are generally more stable than common linear rods and can improve accuracy at higher speeds, but it's worth noting that Snapmaker's claimed speed of 150-180mm/s is still very high. We will have to wait and see how the Artisan achieves its target figures.
The Snapmaker Artisan is not yet available for purchase in Taiwan. 3dmart will continue to track its availability, so stay tuned!
