Desktop 3D printer manufacturer Ultimaker announced a new software strategy at the TCT Show, committing to regular software upgrades to continuously enhance existing hardware.
The first two key software updates will be Ultimaker Cura 3.0 and Cura Connect. The first is scheduled for release on October 17th, offering a powerful
and hassle-free solution for preparing digital files for production.
The Ultimaker system will also be expanded by providing software upgrades to enhance hardware capabilities and offer connectivity with industry-standard CAD applications
(such as SolidWorks and Siemens NX).
Ultimaker founder Siert Wijnia stated at the launch that this strategy highlights the importance of software in the 3D printing ecosystem, and how this marks the beginning of
"updated changes that make 3D printing easier."
On November 7th this year, Cura Connect will allow users to manage a range of Ultimaker 3D printers, creating a solution for prototyping, tooling, and small-scale
production. This groundbreaking industry solution enables users to arrange, schedule, and monitor print jobs, maximizing the efficiency of
Ultimaker 3D printers.
Paul Heiden, Senior Vice President of Product Management at Ultimaker, explained: "Even customers who purchased the Ultimaker 3 can benefit from Ultimaker Cura
software and new software solutions now and in the future. We are proud to offer future-proof solutions. Ultimaker Cura opens up possibilities for third-party plug-in
development, ensuring seamless workflows with industry-standard CAD software, making 3D printing even more convenient."
Siert added: "Furthermore, we will continuously develop new applications for 3D printers, providing our one million Cura users, including professional designers, engineers,
researchers, and manufacturers, with even more integrated solutions. This will help users make the most of their Ultimaker 3D printers."
Ultimaker also celebrated a significant milestone at today's event, announcing that it has now reached one million users of Cura software, and celebrated this excellent milestone in a grand cake-cutting ceremony.
