3DMart is happy to try out various materials and 3D printing tests for everyone. Standard sample cards are too monotonous and don't show properties like toughness and strength, so we created a composite material punch gun! Most of you probably saw this toy as children. Don't underestimate this small punch gun; it combines six different materials! Each material has its own suitable function. Additionally, we designed a hollow viewing window in the structure so everyone can clearly see how the punch gun works:
The main retractable rail is Tough PLA, which has similar strength to ABS and is not easily brittle, making it suitable for functional parts. The modular gun handle is made of nylon and ABS. In addition to their strength, nylon also offers elasticity and toughness, making it able to withstand the stress on the pivot point. The gun handle sleeve is made of stretchable TPU, which can better adapt to shape changes. The green retainer pin uses CPE, which has temperature resistance and mechanical strength, suitable for objects and mechanical parts. The fist, which often experiences external impact, is 3D printed using high-strength PC.
All materials used in this project are mainly original filaments from Ultimaker. Normally, different materials require consideration of varying shrinkage rates, but because Ultimaker prints with precise dimensions and the Cura slicing software has preset parameters, the combination of these parts remains excellent. Of course, the benefits of Ultimaker's dual extrusion system are indispensable, allowing us to utilize PVA water-soluble support material, which, when placed in water, yields precise dimensions and beautiful surfaces.
These are the seven parts after 3D printing. Now, let's assemble them according to the diagram:
First, insert the elastic bands, green retainer pin, and retractable rail into the handle's slots. Then, place the perfectly symmetrical elastic bands and retainer pin on the other side.
Cover with the black ABS gun handle, making sure every slot fits precisely. Finally, attach the fist and the holster, and it's done!
