【3D Printing News】The Potential of 3D Printing in the Global Automotive Industry

The second half of 2017 has been a busy one for Ultimaker, attending conferences and seminars to share some of our customers' 3D printing success stories which could help others to create better products and work more efficiently.
Our Senior Vice President of Product Management, Paul Heiden has traveled far and wide to spread the news about the significant time and cost savings that Ultimaker 3D printers can offer for small-scale manufacturing in business and production environments.
The best example is Volkswagen, who use multiple Ultimaker 3D printers to streamline production time and costs by manufacturing jigs, fixtures, and other tools in their local work areas. By doing so, they reduced their tool development time and costs by over 90%.

World Automotive Conference, Istanbul, October 10 - 12, 2017

Paul's first stop was the World Automotive Conference held at the Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus in Istanbul, Turkey.
Attended by over 500 automotive market experts, this event focused on Industry 4.0 and future trends in the automotive industry, facilitating interactive debate, thought-leadership and networking opportunities.

On October 11th, Paul spoke at the conference about the specific advantages of using 3D printing for small-scale production, and attendees were able to discover the advantages of 3D printing for automotive applications by visiting Ultimaker's exhibition stand, where they could talk to product experts, undergo product demonstrations, and examine sample 3D printed end-use parts, such as 3D printed jigs, fixtures, and other tools.

The success of this event was thanks to the help of our partner 3Dortgen, who is responsible for the sales, installation, and after-sales service of Ultimaker's 3D printers, accessories, and materials throughout Turkey.

SAMA 3D Printing Conference, Shanghai, October 20 - 22

The next stop was the 2nd Shanghai Additive Manufacturing Association International Forum, held at Lingang Songjiang Technology City, in Shanghai.
SAMA is China's leading 3D printing industry association, and over 800 attendees from all over the world participated in the conference.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Shanghai consulate, and offered the opportunity for Dutch 3D printing companies to present themselves at a technology seminar and matchmaking organized with interesting potential customers or partners.

At the exhibition, Paul Heiden presented the Volkswagen case study at the industry forum. In addition, we presented Ultimaker products, our business, and hosted a media event to announce Wenpoo 3D as our official service partner in Mainland China.
