The Ultimaker S5 3D printer has won the prestigious iF Design Award. Through its user-friendly features and interface, Ultimaker, together with design agency GRO Design, received the iF Product Award at the ceremony held on March 15 in Munich, Germany.
The "Oscars" of the Design World
The German iF Design Award (iF Product Design Award) is an international product design award founded in 1953. Each year, over 2,000 products from around the world apply, making it the equivalent of the "Oscars" in the product design industry. For 65 years, the iF Design Award has represented a mark of quality assurance and honored outstanding design. Products are categorized into seven areas: Product, Packaging, Communication, Interior Architecture, Professional Concept, Service Design/User Experience, and Architecture. This year, the jury responsible for identifying the best designs was comprised of 67 design experts from across the globe, and Ultimaker was one of over 6,400 entries from 50 countries. All iF Design Award winners, including the Ultimaker S5, will be showcased in this year's iF World Design Guide.
"I think the iF Award is actually one of the most prestigious awards in the world because it is recognized by so many international designers," emphasized Damian Mackiewicz, a juror from Harman International Industries in the United States. He noted that as a designer, having product design evaluated by global talent is invaluable.
