【3D Printing Knowledge】3 Tips to Perfect Your 3D Prints!

With the popularity of 3D printing technology, have you considered the small details that can make your finished product even better, in addition to understanding the technical aspects? Today, we're going to teach you 3 tips to effectively improve the quality of your 3D prints!

1. Lay a Good Foundation, Say Goodbye to Warping
3D printing is like building a house; laying a good foundation is crucial! The filament, after being heated and softened, is extruded from the nozzle. The sudden cooling causes thermal expansion and contraction. If the bottom of the object has many sharp angles or a small contact area with the platform, it can lead to warping of the 3D printed object. Before starting to print, applying a special adhesive to the 3D printer platform can effectively improve warping. We usually use " Magigoo" adhesive, applying 1-2 thin layers to stabilize the print position. After completion, the print can be easily removed from the platform. The adhesive's texture is easy to clean, and its odorless and non-toxic composition makes it very safe to use!

2. Water-Soluble Supports, Easy Separation
When 3D printing complex models, the filament will sag due to gravity. Support structures need to be added to suspended areas, and then separated from the main body of the print after completion. If PLA filament is used to print both the model and the supports simultaneously, and they are tightly bonded, removing the supports can take a lot of time and potentially damage the model.

By using water-soluble PVA filament for support structures, they can be dissolved by simply washing with water, eliminating the need for manual removal. This perfectly restores the model while ensuring a smooth and complete surface. For example, we use Ultimaker's dual-extrusion 3D printer to print both the object and its supports simultaneously. In the image below, you can see that the contact surface after the PVA supports dissolve is still very smooth and flat. (Further reading:Comparing Support Effects: Which Method is Right for You?)

3. Alcohol Polishing, Bright Surface
Use a Polymaker Polysher to polish your model. Gaseous alcohol dissolves the surface of the 3D printed object, fusing the stacked layers and creating a smooth effect, significantly enhancing the model's texture in a short time!
