【3D Printing】Overseas Maker Launches 3D Printable Mechanical Counter Model
A YouTuber from the channel "It's on my MIND" has developed a mechanical counter made entirely of 3D printed parts. The device can display numbers from 0 to 999 and requires no additional metal parts.
This three-digit counter is made entirely of PLA plastic. It uses no metal springs, screws, or rubber bands.
The design of this counter is an interesting test for your 3D printer, as all mechanical functions must be realized using precisely printed plastic parts.
At the core of this counter is a lever mechanism. Each pull of the lever rotates a single wheel by 36 degrees, which is one-tenth of a full circle. An integrated ratchet system ensures precise movement. After each operation, the plastic spring built into the handle returns the lever to its starting position.
The transmission mechanism between the number wheels is particularly ingenious. Once a single wheel reaches 9, two teeth engage with an intermediate wheel, which then rotates the tens wheel one position further. The transition from tens to hundreds works in the same way.
A clever zeroing mechanism allows the counter to be reset. By pressing and turning the axle, all wheels can be simultaneously reset to zero.

Additionally, the creator provides detailed instructions on assembly and coloring. Surprisingly, he recommends using nail polish for coloring, which proved to be a cheap and effective solution.
And 3DMART also actually printed this creation!
We completed this project using both Bambu Lab's X1C and X1E. After assembly, it was truly fascinating to confirm its operational structure!
This creation impressively demonstrates the possibilities of 3D printing complex mechanical systems.
It shows how functional devices can be created using creative solutions and precise construction, without the need for additional materials.
