【3-in-1】Snapmaker Artisan Unboxing and Assembly Guide!
One Machine for Cutting, Engraving, and Building

The Snapmaker Artisan is an extra-large, easy-to-use, luxurious all-in-one 3D printing, laser, and CNC machine, though it does take up a significant amount of space. 3DMART will release four articles introducing the unboxing, 3D printing, laser engraving and cutting, and CNC functions of the Artisan. These articles will combine introductions and reviews from various online sources, including the #1 digital fabrication magazine All3DP, and Tom's Hardware, known for benchmarking, to give you a comprehensive understanding!

Artisan Introduction
The Snapmaker Artisan is a versatile fabrication machine. It offers 3D printing (dual extrusion 3D printing, to be precise), laser engraving and cutting, and CNC carving and cutting, with a rotary module available separately for 4-axis laser and CNC engraving. It is a significant improvement over its predecessor, the Snapmaker 2.0, featuring a larger build volume, faster speeds, and quick-release modules that snap into place in minutes. It has a direct drive with an interesting dual hotend — two extruders sharing a single tool head.

What are the benefits of a dual hotend? Find out more here 👉 Snapmaker Single Nozzle, Dual Nozzle, IDEX Independent Dual Nozzle: Pros, Cons, and Comparison

Other advanced features include fast linear rails on the X and Y axes, traditional dual Z-axes for stability, a double-sided PEI-coated glass build plate, and built-in WiFi. The laser module's power has been enhanced to 10 watts, capable of engraving and cutting materials up to 8mm thick. The CNC tool head also boasts 200W of power at 18,000 RPM!

The Artisan comes with a ventilated, laser-safe enclosure, making the machine safer to use in an open workshop where people or pets might pass by. The enclosure also prevents dust from escaping and keeps the chamber warm using engineering-grade materials. It performs excellently in all three modes and is well worth considering! Although it occupies a large amount of space (they had to build a new table to fit this machine in their workshop), it still saves space for any maker who wants to print, engrave, and carve. Its thoughtful design makes it not only one of the best 3D printers but also one of the best laser cutting and engraving machines Tom's Hardware has ever seen, a great choice for anyone who needs all its functions and can afford its premium price.

Artisan Pros and Cons
The pros and cons of the Artisan are as follows:

   Pros Cons
+ Three creative tech tools in one - Occupies a lot of space
+ Good dual extrusion printing experience - Poor TPU printing performance
+ Direct drive - Snapmaker replacement parts only
+ Automatic bed leveling - Cumbersome enclosure setup
   + Large build volume
   + Enclosed design
   + Built-in Wi-Fi
+ Overall excellent performance of the Artisan

A new Premium version is now available, converting the 10W laser module to 40W, allowing for engraving and cutting of thicker materials with its powerful output!

This is a large machine, meaning even larger packaging. In fact, it's divided into two large and heavy packages (one of which weighs nearly 50 kg!). The contents of both are well-padded, well-packaged, and extremely well-sorted. Within these boxes, items are further grouped and labeled so you know what you need and when, as you'll see in the assembly section.

Unboxing the Snapmaker Artisan should be done close to recycling day, as the countless boxes will fill any bin. The luxurious packaging is neat and clearly labeled.

What else is included?
The Artisan comes with all the tools needed for long-term assembly and maintenance of the machine. They provide a reusable toolbox that nicely displays the tools: side cutters, metal scraper, wire brush, tweezers, and a USB stick. You also get two 1kg spools of Snapmaker filament: black PLA and white breakaway PLA for support, along with standard safety glasses for woodworking, two pieces of lightweight plywood, an MDF board, a calibration block, and clamps and bits for CNC.

**No laser safety glasses are included, as the Artisan is equipped with a laser-safe enclosure.

The Snapmaker Artisan comes with an instruction manual, and the instructions are clear and concise (but be sure to assemble it as close to its final location as possible!).

So, how much space do you need to store the assembled Snapmaker? The enclosure and the machine itself measure 67 cm wide, 93 cm deep, and 71 cm high. DIY Machine suggests an additional 25 cm of width on both sides to accommodate spool holders for 3D printing (when using two filaments in the same print, there's a spool holder on each side), which also allows the Integrated Control Center (ICC) to sit next to the enclosure. Snapmaker advises placing the ICC on the right side of the machine so its controls can still be accessed when the cabinet door is open.

Once the main frame and enclosure of the machine are assembled, you'll need to attach the correct work platform and tool head depending on the function you want to use.

Simply pull the lever at the top, slide one module out, slide another in, and close the same lever. A huge improvement in speed and convenience.

The same applies to the work platform – in fact, the improvement here is even greater. Adopting the same single-lever design, but for some functions, this saves the hassle of having to remove twelve bolts (for the milling platform) and then install roughly the same number of bolts for the function you want to switch to. If it were 3D printing, you'd need different bolts to attach it to the Snapmaker. All that hassle is now gone. Snapmaker has done it again. If previous generation Snapmaker users ask if it's worth upgrading, I would say it's a significant upgrade not to be missed if you frequently switch functions.

Once assembled, you can connect it to your computer and use Snapmaker Luban to create!

Snapmaker collaborated with Luban to create "Snapmaker Luban," which can slice models for all three functions. This software is beginner-friendly, with many presets for 3D printing, laser, and CNC modes. The main screen provides helpful links to Snapmaker's manuals and video tutorials.

The 3D printing mode uses a combination of presets and sliders, with pop-ups explaining the purpose of each function. You can choose normal, fast, smooth, or strong presets, or click "More" for full control. Extruders can be set to different speeds, but they need to maintain the same layer height.
