[The fourth installment of the DWS X-FAB Hands-On Review is out! For those who've forgotten, here's a quick recap:Review PART 1,Review PART 2,Review PART 3]
Many customers want the appearance of their samples to be closer to the final product, or they hope their designed models can be presented in metal.
In the past, casting pure metal objects was a costly and time-consuming process that not everyone could easily afford. Now, you have another option!
After 3D printing your desired object, you can electroplate it to give it a metallic texture. Let's take a look at the results!
Do you remember the Xbox controller made with DWS - XFAB that appeared in a previous article?
(Material:DWS XFAB UV Resin - Invicta 915 (ABS-like)
(Layer thickness: 0.1mm)

The finished product of UV curing has a perfect surface finish, and its smooth exterior can be directly spray-painted and electroplated without any post-processing.
If FDM is used, it can also be smoothed with putty and sanding before proceeding.

After silver plating, the shiny surface gives the object a more futuristic feel, and the increased overall weight also improves the tactile experience!

The strong reflection even allows the object to be used as a mirror, so you don't have to worry about your mom ambushing you from behind while gaming (

There is a wide variety of metals that can be electroplated, and zinc offers the most versatility in patterns. After electroplating, the surface will be a very shiny silver-white, and if transparent colored paint is then sprayed on, it can be transformed into different metallic colors.

For example, our controller's backplate uses yellow transparent spray paint to give the object a golden texture. You can spray it with any color you like, making it easy and fun!
