【3D Printing Application】Off-road Impact Performance Test, BCN Leads Team to Victory!
To encourage university students worldwide to experiment with various technologies and develop different types of electric off-road motorcycles, the "International Smart Motorcycle Challenge" is held annually. The ELISAVA Racing Team from Spain participated with their "Mountain Rescue Off-Road Motorcycle" theme, using a BCN3D 3D printer to produce 19 mechanical parts. They ultimately won 5 awards. Read about their journey here:
Designed for mountain rescue, off-road motorcycles must be able to handle any emergency in the highly variable mountain terrain. Strength, speed, resistance, and stability must all be strictly controlled!

When developing motorcycle parts that come into contact with batteries and electronic equipment, the ELISAVA Racing Team used ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) filament, which effectively isolates electrical resistance and achieves a low static electricity effect. To improve the motorcycle's friction resistance, they used PP (Polypropylene) filament as the main material for the mudguards, targeting parts most susceptible to impact and friction (Click here for: 3D Printing Filament Comparison Guide). During the development process, they could also quickly test and modify part shapes and surface effects.

BCN3D uses IDEX (Independent Dual Extruders) 3D printing technology, where the two nozzle systems are completely separate and move independently, so their movements do not interfere with each other during operation. By using Mirror Mode, 3D objects can be printed simultaneously and symmetrically, effectively saving the team a significant amount of production time. Through 3D printing technology, the ELISAVA Racing Team not only broke away from the conventional manufacturing processes for automotive and motorcycle parts but also successfully produced robust, durable, and ready-to-use parts. They stood out among numerous competitors, ultimately winning 5 awards. Did you enjoy this sharing?
