[3D Printing News] Make a coaster on-site, free experience in Kaohsiung!
Is your coaster absorbent but slow to dry, bulky and fragile? FormBox vacuum forming is so much fun! Customize your own coaster for free, choose whatever you like, this weekend at the "Mega Maker Day" in Kaohsiung! ("Mega Maker Day" is this weekend in Kaohsiung!)
This time, we want to share a vacuum-formed item: a "water-collecting coaster." At our booth, you can also choose your name and favorite design. In addition to comparing the two vacuum forming machines, FormBox and Vaquform DT2, we will also have industrial-grade Ultimaker S3 and affordable Prusa 3D printers on display! So how do you make this water-collecting coaster? Here's a sneak peek before the exhibition:
First, we prepare several circular plates of different heights, open-source cartoon designs, and English letters, all placed in Ultimaker Cura 4.4 slicing software. Then, we use the Ultimaker 3D printer to print them out, and the modules for vacuum forming are complete!

These printed 3D patterns will be used as materials for vacuum forming. Don't worry if you don't have a 3D printer; you can use clay, cardboard, CNC carved wood, or any other method to create objects for shaping on a vacuum forming machine. The FormBox can also be connected to any household vacuum cleaner as a vacuum pump, which is very convenient for both families and makers.

Place the printed circular frame on the FormBox vacuum forming machine and put your desired design in the center. We chose a Totoro. You can also combine your English name or small designs around the circular frame to create your own personalized cartoon water-collecting coaster.

Next, after the material sheet in the FormBox heats up to the specified temperature, quickly press down for vacuum forming, and your custom coaster is born! In addition to the quick and simple steps, enthusiastic staff will be on-site to assist and guide you, so there's no need to worry at all.

Now it's time for the Vaquform DT2 to create the shell. We chose Winnie the Pooh for this. Here's a close-up of the coaster prototype for your reference. Both of these vacuum forming machines, as well as 3D printers and exciting exhibits, will be on display at the "Mega Maker Day" event.

The image below shows the difference between the Vaquform DT2 and FormBox vacuum forming machines. Since the Vaquform DT2 has its own built-in vacuum pump, its vacuum forming capability is stronger, and it shows more detail; the FormBox, which connects to any vacuum cleaner, produces a softer but more even shell effect in recessed areas.

Both vacuum forming machines have their own characteristics. In terms of price and strength, the Vaquform DT2 is more suitable for industrial applications, small-batch production, and packaging development, while the FormBox is ideal for craft workshops, food molds, educational courses, and similar uses.

After painting each coaster, it's complete! In addition to the pure white finished products, acrylic paints will also be provided on-site for everyone to color as they wish. Once dry, the paint is waterproof, so you can use them with confidence; of course, you can also take them home for free. We welcome everyone to come and experience the fun and practical vacuum forming machine.

The editor's actual test of the Winnie the Pooh coaster with a mug full of water showed no problems. This weekend, December 7th and 8th, come to the "Mega Maker Day" for a free experience with the FormBox vacuum forming machine and make your personalized painted coaster! There will also be exclusive discounts and gifts waiting for you!
