Developed exclusively by a British designer and combined with vacuum forming technology, you can make terrazzo coasters at home in just a few simple steps! This unique craftsmanship and innovative, environmentally friendly design method is shown here:
Slow Design focuses on the origin, use, and manufacturing methods of materials, while also considering environmental sustainability. Designers can choose to use the Slow Design method in any field; by focusing on the design method rather than the design goal, many small businesses are also trying to implement this production method, which not only protects the earth but also allows for the development of more creative products!

British product designer Katie Gillies is passionate about slow design and specializes in using Jesmonite (a composite water-based resin) to handcraft various unique products, home furnishings, and installation art pieces.

This time, Katie will be using terrazzo combined with mosaic inlay techniques to design a series of handmade coasters. What's special about this project is the collaboration with Mayku FormBox, incorporating vacuum forming technology.
After designing the initial shape using materials like wood and clay, place it into the FormBox vacuum forming machine with vacuum forming sheets, and in just three seconds, the blister shape is created! After completion, the item can be easily demolded, and the desired mold shape is ready in seconds.

Next, mix the solidified terrazzo fragments into the Jesmonite resin, adjusting the quantity and colors to your liking. Finally, pour all materials into the vacuum-formed mold. After complete solidification and polishing, high-quality homemade coasters are finished! You can also apply this concept infinitely to design various containers, trays, planters, and other home decor items.

Since Katie's studio acquired the Mayku FormBox desktop vacuum forming machine, she has been able to quickly realize various imaginative ideas for every design project. In addition to saving significant development, testing, and production time, using a vacuum forming machine also effectively reduces costs compared to making silicone molds.
