[Laser Engraving] Snapmaker Ray User Stories - 20/40W High-Efficiency Laser Module

【Laser Engraving】Snapmaker User Stories - 20/40W High-Efficiency Laser Module, Igniting Your Next Innovative Project

You probably already know that Snapmaker is famous for its flagship 3-in-1 3D printers and innovative modular design. Additionally, as the desktop 3D printer market has become more mature and 3D printers more common among makers, 3D printing functions inevitably squeeze out laser and CNC capabilities. However, the truth is, Snapmaker has spent as much time designing and producing laser-related products as it has on 3D printing products. Users love the laser function as much as Snapmaker does. Nearly 30% of 3-in-1 users regularly use the laser function for creative projects. It wasn't until early this year that Snapmaker realized they had over 6 years of experience in designing and producing quality laser products. Looking back at the product roadmap conceived in 2017, Snapmaker believes now is the right time to release a standalone laser machine.

Laser Experience Upgrade Never Stops

The reason for adding laser functionality to 3D printers is that their motion mechanisms are similar, and both can enable creative people to quickly process specific materials. But Snapmaker did not expect that this technology would develop faster than the other two, and user demand would grow rapidly. After successfully raising funds on Kickstarter, in the first year after the Snapmaker Original successfully raised funds, Snapmaker began its first upgrade based on user feedback. The 1.6W laser module was released within a year of the Snapmaker Original's successful crowdfunding and still holds the record for the highest repeat purchase rate of over 50% in Snapmaker's history.

From then on, Snapmaker quickly upgraded the laser module as technology allowed. Laser power has increased nearly 200-fold in the past 6 years, from approximately 5W to 40W. Thanks to these upgrades, the number of supported materials has also increased from about 5 to over 20. Cutting capability has also greatly improved, from being almost unable to cut to being able to cut 15mm thick maple sheets.

The upgrade of linear modules also plays an important role in the laser experience. As laser power increases, the laser module becomes heavier, which in turn requires higher toughness and repeatability from the linear modules. Considering these demands in the early stages of product design, both linear modules of Snapmaker 2.0 and Artisan meet the requirements.

With other product upgrades and Snapmaker's commitment to precision manufacturing, the laser experience has also been enhanced in terms of working area, accuracy, engraving and cutting quality, and working speed. All of this contributes to a faster, easier experience, and a wider range of creative options.

Not Just Hardware, Software is Also Important

Similar to 3D printers, a complete and thoughtful software workflow is also one of the keys to a good user experience. Snapmaker is proud to find that Luban software enhances laser functionality in many ways. Here are some important features and updates from the past 6 years:

Object Processing
• Supports import of vector (svg/dxf), bitmap (jpg\png\bmp), and 3D models (stl\amf\3mf)
• Provides four image processing methods: vector, grayscale, black and white, and halftone (v3.11)
• Allows stacking 3D models (v4.1)

Processing Technology
• Supports cutting, vector engraving, image engraving (dot mode, line mode, inline mode) (v4.9, coming soon)
• Supports multiple objects, multiple toolpaths (v3.15)
• Supports preset and manage material processing (v4.1)

Hardware Support: Camera Assistant Background (Original), Camera Capture (1.6W, 10W), Rotary Module (v3.14)

Editing Functions: Selection (v4.3), Spline Drawing and Editing (v4.3), Multi-source Mode (v4.0-v4.9)

Template Library (v4.9, coming soon)

Snapmaker believes all these features contribute to the overall workflow. In addition to helping users process images, this year they are taking a step further by offering a template library, allowing users to complete their designs in seconds, including over 1,000 ready-made patterns, shapes, icons, and fonts. Turning your ideas into designs takes just seconds!

Users' Love for Snapmaker Laser Functions

Snapmaker users love every laser upgrade and don't hesitate to share their creations and experiences with others. Here are some examples from thousands of user cases in the community. Most of them are home decor, gifts for loved ones, and crafts. Some even make a living from it.

Here are some comments from current users:

"My first time using it was with the 1600mw module, and it took 55 minutes to cut. Now, with the 10W module, it only takes 9 minutes." - Jaime Ramirez

"I am a mom of 3 kids, and I need to earn extra income. I just started, and this machine has become my favorite tool. 🤩 I love the laser; I have the 10W laser module, and I've created some beautiful pieces with it. I also used the CNC and loved it too, but I prefer the laser. I think for anyone who wants a 3-in-1 versatile machine, this machine is your best friend. You can do so much with it; you won't be limited. I am grateful for it. If I had the money, I would buy another one, haha, I am saving up for the rotary module. But I always tell people to check out Snapmaker. I've had very few issues, but if I do, I contact the company. I think they are quite easy to communicate with, and their response is quite fast. This machine is a way for me to have my creative time. I also love being able to make my own gifts at a professional level. I want to say thank you to Snapmaker. I just want to say I wish the laser could engrave deeper, and the bed could accommodate it, that's my only complaint. Other than that, go buy one! And buy another 10W laser and rotary tool! PS: Everything is a learning process; practice makes perfect. Learn it, find what works for you." - c.

"The difference between the original laser and the new 10W laser is amazing. I used to struggle to cut anything with the old laser, multiple passes couldn't even cut 3mm maple. Now, I can cut 5mm material in one pass. And the speed allows me to complete multiple projects in hours." - Renee Haden-Knost

"I sincerely hope and recommend it to every creative soul on this planet! Go buy a Snapmaker and join the Snapmaker family! ❤️❤️" - Rob

Some influential Snapmaker users can test the laser more comprehensively and create amazing projects. Let's look at the following interesting cases:
