Bambu Lab breaks the traditional 3D printer mold by introducing the H2D, which integrates 3D printing, laser engraving, pen plotting, and cutting functions.
This product not only continues Bambu Lab's consistent advantages in ease of operation and technical innovation, but also boldly innovates in modular functionality, aiming to meet the diverse needs of advanced users and makers for multi-material processing.
This unboxing will focus on the 40W laser version of the H2D!

The H2D 40W Laser Combo includes all available tools for the H2D.
In addition to the 3D printing function, this combo also includes a cutting module with a pen holder and a 40W diode laser module.
A lower-power 10W laser is also available.

Create more possibilities with the laser and cutting modules
For those unfamiliar with the use of such tools, imagine the 2D world.
Flat, stackable designs and cuts, or components that can be applied to other objects to add effects and texture.
Decals, labels, frames, inlays... these things might not look good when made with multi-color 3D printing.
Your choice of material depends on the tool you use.
The H2D's cutting module is a shallow drag knife that can cleanly cut thin materials such as paper, cardstock, vinyl, and some fabrics.
The laser module is suitable for cutting or engraving wood, acrylic, and similar materials thicker than a millimeter.

The laser or cutting module is mounted on the front of the H2D printhead and locks into place with a friction-based lever.
This means the H2D outperforms many brands of multi-tool equipment because it keeps the base toolhead (3D printing component) fixed.
Function switching only requires attaching an external printhead, rather than removing and replacing the printhead, which is more efficient.
40W Laser Module
The 40W laser can cut materials several millimeters thick in a single pass.
To do this, an air assist tube must be connected to help the H2D blow away debris during cutting.
The air pump hose connects to a connector between the two filament guides at the rear of the H2D chamber, and the safety screw must be removed for the air pump to operate.

The laser build plate provided by the H2D can be used to place materials for laser cutting, where the sparse slats can be freely adjusted for spacing, suitable for materials that require various contact points.
As we expect from high-end Bambu Lab systems, it has a lot of automation and self-checking features.
The H2D's multiple cameras read barcodes on the print platform to ensure the software identifies what's on the platform and is compatible with your desired outcome.

The laser module can easily cut various items such as leather, cork, wood, and paper in a short time.
The 40W laser module can also mark certain metals.
Whether 10W or 40W, both Bambu Lab laser modules are blue diode lasers, which means they can engrave and cut a wider variety of materials.
Bambu Suite
Bambu Suite can create and manage all jobs using the H2D's non-3D printing functions, including laser and cutting, and pen plotting.
You can combine these functions into a single job, or even integrate them with your regular 2D printer for "print then cut" functionality.
Unlike 3D printing, which requires loading a model, configuring settings, and then slicing (essentially a prepare, preview, print process),
Bambu Suite provides a creative space with tools to create from scratch.
These tools include basic primitive shapes, text (including a deep font library), an image library with emojis and other common icons, and a pen tool for point-to-point drawing and arcs.
In addition, it provides QR code generation tools and the ability to add sticker-like offset borders to your work.

After the creation phase, you will work in the preparation area.
Here, you can access Bambu Suite's smart features, such as batch processing and auto-alignment.
The H2D's camera array allows you to precisely view the work area and align your design artwork to the correct position on the material within the frame.
Safety
Bambu Lab has gone to great lengths to ensure user peace of mind by incorporating a series of fire sensors in the fully enclosed device and a powerful exhaust system that can quickly vent smoke from the chamber.
The H2D powerfully exhausts air from the chamber through a three-layer filter, then purifies and directs the air through an exhaust hose to an open window or air purifier for optimal results.
Each hose and clamp of the H2D provides several meters of tubing from the H2D to the fume extractor and then to the window, giving you some flexibility in placement.

Another difference between the H2D laser and 3D printing workflow is that all cutting operations require you to be present at the machine.
You must press a button to confirm the operation, and both the machine and software will remind you not to leave the machine.
The H2D full laser version comes standard with a red, pressable emergency stop button.
In case of any problems, you can immediately stop the machine's operation.
Once the laser job is complete, as long as the H2D knows the material being engraved or cut, a countdown timer will appear, asking you to wait a period of time before removing the material so that the smoke can be adequately exhausted.
The H2D's laser experience is very clean, and the machine also comes with a maintenance tracker that records each job, eventually prompting you when cleaning is needed.
Is the H2D worth it as a multi-function machine?
The longer you work with these types of machine tools, the more complementary materials and processes you will discover.
Pure 3D printing can create amazing objects, but cork mats, foam bases, and felt linings are simple cutting operations that significantly enhance the tactile feel of 3D prints.
So from this perspective, the H2D is a very practical machine.

If the H2D's appeal lies in its multi-material processing capabilities, then the H2D is ideal for you.
Its basic configuration is an excellent dual extruder, utilizing two nozzles for efficient and fast multi-color and multi-material printing.
By adding multiple Bambu Lab AMS units, you can maximize this capability, thereby expanding the number of consumables you can use in a single job.
While some of the H2D's features can be found in other systems, no other product currently matches the H2D in versatility.
