[3D Printing] Unboxing the Bambu Lab P2S AMS Combo!

【3D Printing】Unboxing the Bambu Lab P2S AMS Combo!

Bambu Lab has given its classic 3D printer, the P1S, a comprehensive upgrade.
When the P1 series was originally released, it was positioned between the entry-level A1 and the higher-end X1 Carbon.
With the H2D becoming Bambu Lab's high-end 3D printer, an update to the mid-range model was a natural progression.

The Bambu Lab P2S AMS Combo is a four-color printing device that combines the many advantages of its series with an affordable price.
It features the X1's color touchscreen and the A1's replaceable nozzle—or more precisely, upgraded versions of the H2's screen and nozzle.
Additionally, it comes with an improved camera, a USB interface, an upgraded cooling system, AI monitoring capabilities, and the new AMS 2 Pro as standard.

Like the P1S, it has everything you need, but without some of the high-end features.
This printer still offers Bambu Lab's traditional 256 cubic millimeters print volume, but without a laser, dual nozzles, fancy shrouds, and certainly no lidar.
Most importantly, it doesn't need these features at all.

Unboxing
The Bambu Lab P2S package includes everything needed to set up the printer, along with some extra parts and printer maintenance tools.
The P2S comes with several test models pre-installed in its memory, including a scraper that you can print and assemble using parts provided in the toolkit.

If you need a USB drive for time-lapse videos, please note that it is not included.
The package contains a printed quick start guide and instructions on how to access the slicer software and mobile app.
A QR code is printed on the inside flap of the box, which can be scanned to watch an unboxing video.

P2S New Design
The most noticeable improvement in the P2S is the touchscreen, which is the same as in the high-end H2 series.
The P2S's toolhead also draws inspiration from the H2 series, using the same steel A1 nozzle—though not quite an identical A1 nozzle.
This new nozzle looks similar to the removable A1 nozzle and is also secured with clips and magnets.

The P2 and H2 nozzles have a higher flow rate to match their faster Core XY kinematics.
It's great to see the P2S adopt this nozzle, as it's easier to remove for troubleshooting or changing sizes.

The P2S also features a brand-new active airflow system, addressing a common pain point for many: printing PLA with the enclosure door open.
This airflow system directs cooler indoor air to an auxiliary cooling fan on the side wall, reducing issues like nozzle clogging or print warping.
While the P2S does not have active heating, it relies on the heated bed to do all the heating.
To simplify operation, it closes internal baffles and vents air out of the chamber only through the carbon filter.

The P2S also includes a new USB port, a small detail with significant implications.
The USB port allows users to easily transfer files without needing a network, which was more cumbersome with the previous micro SD card.
Additionally, the P2S now stores time-lapse videos on this interface.

The camera has also been upgraded to a 1080p high-frame-rate model, and with enhanced chamber lighting, the image quality is significantly improved.
Furthermore, this camera is part of the new AI computer monitoring system, which ensures the installed print platform matches the slicer settings and monitors for nozzle oozing and filament tangles.

Nozzle pressure is measured by a eddy current sensor, and the machine automatically adjusts the flow rate.
Flow is also supported by the new extrusion system, where a permanent magnet synchronous motor servo provides a maximum extrusion force of up to 8.5 kg, an increase of about 70% over the old system.
The printer also monitors system operation to detect material wear or blockages.
Combined with the tangle sensor in the filament hub, the P2S can effectively prevent printing failures.

The rest of the printer is essentially the same: a 256 cubic millimeter build volume and a fast, high-precision motion system.
If you're new to Core XY, this motion system uses belt drives to move the X and Y axes in sync, allowing for smoother, faster prints.
The print head always stays at the top of the machine, while the print bed slowly descends. Combined with vibration compensation input shaping technology, this results in extremely smooth, high-quality prints.

The printer's high-sensitivity automatic leveling system ensures a perfect first layer print.
No Z-axis adjustment is needed. After a few minutes of automatic calibration, the printer is ready to operate.

AMS 2 Pro
The P2S Combo comes standard with the new AMS 2 Pro, a four-color automatic filament system.
This new AMS also doubles as a filament dryer, with an active ventilation design that maintains low humidity when the lid is closed.
Since the dryer does not operate during printing, desiccant packs are still needed to prevent moisture.

The AMS 2 Pro's filament tubing is now exposed, making maintenance easier.
This makes it simpler to remove any broken filament fragments that might get stuck inside the unit.

Mid-range Model Packed with the Latest Technology
Bambu Lab continues to innovate its Core XY printers, staying competitive in a crowded market.
Most impressively, Bambu has added so many new features to the P2S while keeping the price point close to that of the first-generation P1S.

It is an excellent choice for users looking to upgrade their 3D printing experience.
It is easy to set up and use, making it suitable both as a beginner's first printer and as the tenth printer in a print farm.
