[3D Printing News] Ultimaker Cura 4.2 Official Version Released!

【3D Printing News】Ultimaker Cura 4.2 Official Version Released!

Ultimaker's official slicing software, Cura 4.2, has been officially released! At the same time, Ultimaker Cura won the "Software Tool" award in the "2019 3D Printing Industry Awards", which is the most direct recognition of Cura slicing software and an affirmation of the 3D printing pre-experience. Millions of 3D printing professionals worldwide have chosen to use Ultimaker Cura software to assist in R&D and innovation. Now, let's explore its new features:

Orthographic View
The new orthographic view makes Ultimaker Cura more user-friendly for CAD users. This feature makes it easier to compare the pre-print dimensions of models. This feature is now available in Cura 4.2 under "View > Camera View > Orthographic".

Object List
The new object list allows for quick and easy identification of file names and models. Clicking directly on a model will display its object name; conversely, selecting an object name in the bottom left corner will display the corresponding model view. The expansion or collapse of this list will be maintained based on the user's last state.

Color Separation Display
The infill and support interface in the preview view now have new color options, making them easier to distinguish in complex models. Infill lines are now displayed in orange, and support interfaces are distinguished in blue; this feature can be found in "Color Scheme" > "Line Type" above.

(Support lines are now a more distinct blue)

Slicing Calculation
After clicking "Slice", the slice button will display "Processing" and "Slicing" to prevent users from adjusting other functions during the calculation without immediate effect. We also recommend patiently waiting for the calculation to complete after each click of "Slice" before making any other adjustments, to avoid losing any parameter effects during the process.

Fine-tuning Distance
During retraction and long moves, some filament characteristics may "bleed" more. The new Cura 4.2 will add a new fine-tuning setting to the restart distance to maintain a precise extrusion width when resuming printing, resulting in a more perfect object.

Smart Seam
At the starting point of each print layer, if all extrusion starting points fall in the same position, the final object will show a more obvious seam. The new Cura 4.2 allows you to add a custom option "Seam Preference" in "Shell" and select "Smart Hiding"; this feature will automatically select the seam location for each layer through analysis, producing a better-looking 3D printed product appearance.

Flow Control
Flow control for different functions can now be set in more detail. You can now adjust the filament flow for specific print features; for example, walls, infill, supports, prime towers, etc., can all be adjusted individually. This feature can be found in the custom options under "Material".

Other Features
The new version now supports more third-party 3D printers, including: Creality CR10 Mini, CR10s, CR10s Pro, CR20, CR20 Pro, Ender 2, Ender 4, and Ender 5, among others. In addition, many bugs have been fixed, such as font rendering, model settings, unnecessary movement paths, prime tower overlap, and printer name issues.
All these new features are completely free, as before! Download Ultimaker Cura 4.2 now and keep up with the professionals to stay ahead in your 3D printing workflow. For optimal results, use it with an Ultimaker 3D printer to fully utilize Ultimaker Cloud platform, multi-machine control, and other comprehensive features; not just a 3D printer, but also providing you with the most complete enterprise system.
