3. Gently slide the glass plate onto the build plate, ensuring it clicks into the rear build plate clamps.
4. Close the two front build plate clamps to secure the glass build plate and close the glass door.
✔Pro tip: For first-time use, it is recommended to use the materials included with the Ultimaker S5. These should be printed on the glass build plate.

Connect the power cable
1. Connect the power cable to the power socket on the back of the Ultimaker S5.
2. Plug the other end of the power cable into a wall socket.

Select build plate
To perform the setup steps, turn on the printer using the power switch on the back. You will first be prompted to select your preferred language; afterwards, the welcome setup interface will appear
on the touchscreen. Follow the steps on the touchscreen, and the next steps will be described on the next page of the user manual.
✔Tip: The language on the printer can be changed at any time by navigating to Preferences > Settings > Language.
Confirm that the glass plate is installed
For first-time use, it is recommended to print with the materials included with the printer: Tough PLA and PVA. This material combination must be printed on the glass plate.
In this step, you must confirm that the glass build plate is installed.
A thin layer of glue should be applied to the glass build plate to ensure reliable adhesion.

III. Print Core Installation

Print cores
The Ultimaker S5 can use two interchangeable print cores in the print head.
There are two types of print cores:
Type AA: for printing build materials and Ultimaker breakaway material
Type BB: for printing water-soluble support materials

Each Ultimaker S5 comes with two print cores AA 0.4 (one of which is already installed in print head slot 1) and one print core BB 0.4. This means you can
print with two build materials or print with a build material and a support material.
Print cores contain information on a small chip so that the printer always knows which print cores are installed and which materials are available for this print core.

Install the second print core
During setup, the second print core must be installed. To do this, go to print core 2 and select start. Follow the steps on the Ultimaker S5:

1. Carefully open the glass door and the print core fan bracket, then press confirm.
2. Install the second print core (BB 0.4) into print head slot 2 by squeezing the print core's lever and sliding it into the print head until you hear a click.
3. Carefully close the print head fan bracket and press confirm to continue with the welcome setup process.
⚠Please note: Do not touch the contact points on the back of the print core with your fingers.
✔Pro tip: Confirm that the print core is perfectly vertical during installation for smooth sliding into the print head.

IV. Material Loading
Before you can start printing on the Ultimaker S5, you need to load the materials into the printer. For first-time use, it is recommended to use the Tough PLA and PVA filaments that come with the Ultimaker S5.

Load Material 2

First load material 2, as it must be placed closest to the back of the printer. Select material 2 from the list displayed on the touchscreen, select start, and then follow these steps to load the material.
1. Place the spool of material 2 (PVA) onto the spool holder and select confirm. Confirm that the end of the material is clockwise so that the material enters feeder 2 from the bottom.
2. Wait until the Ultimaker S5 detects the material and then press confirm.
3. Insert the end of the material into feeder 2 and gently push until the feeder grips it and it can be seen in the remote Bowden tube.
4. Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to heat up print core 2 and load the material into the print head.
5. When the material is extruded from print core 2, confirm again.
6. Wait for print core 2 to cool down.
✔Pro tip: When using third-party materials, you can manually select the material type.
✔Pro tip: You can slightly straighten the end of the material to make it easier to enter the feeder.

Load Material 1

Before placing material 1 on the spool holder, material 1 needs to be placed on the material guide first to prevent the two materials from tangling during printing. From the list on the touchscreen,
select material 1, select start, and then follow these steps.
1. Pick up the material and orient it so the outside is facing outwards.
2. Place the spool of material 1 (Tough PLA) with the material in a counter-clockwise direction on the spool holder, and thread the material guide through the hole in the spool.
3. Place the spool of material 1 on the spool holder behind material 2, then confirm.
4. Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to detect the material, then select confirm.
5. Insert the end of the material into feeder 1 and gently push until the feeder grips it and it can be seen in the remote Bowden tube.
6. Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to heat up print core 1 and load the material into the print head.
7. Confirm that the new material is extruded from print core 1.
8. Wait for print core 1 to cool down.
✔Pro tip: When using third-party materials, you can manually select the material type.
✔Pro tip: You can slightly straighten the end of the material to make it easier to enter the feeder.

V. WiFi and Firmware Installation
Set up WiFi
The Ultimaker S5 can print wirelessly using Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
To connect your Ultimaker S5 to a wireless network, you will need a computer or smartphone. Start the Wi-Fi setup and follow the steps on the touchscreen.
1. Wait until your Ultimaker S5 creates a Wi-Fi hotspot. This may take a minute.
2. Connect to the printer using a computer or phone. The name of the Wi-Fi network will be displayed on the Ultimaker S5's touchscreen.
3. A pop-up window will appear on your computer or smartphone screen. Follow the steps to connect the Ultimaker S5 to your local Wi-Fi network. After completing these steps,
the pop-up message will disappear.
4. Return to the Ultimaker S5 and wait until the Wi-Fi setup is complete.
✔Pro tip: If the pop-up window does not appear, open a browser and go to a website that has not yet been recognized by the browser.
✔Pro tip: In some environments, the Ultimaker S5 may not be able to connect to a wireless network.
If this happens, repeat the Wi-Fi setup using another computer or phone.
✔Pro tip: If you skip this step, you can reset it by navigating to Preferences > Network > Turn on Wi-Fi.
Connect via Ethernet
After completing the setup, you can set up a wired network connection by following these steps.
Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet socket on the back of the Ultimaker S5.
Connect the other end of the cable to the network source (router or modem).
By navigating to Preferences > Network and turning on the network.

Update firmware
The final step is for the Ultimaker S5 to check if the latest firmware is installed. If it's an older version, it will automatically download and install the latest firmware.
This step may take a few minutes.
✔Pro tip: If the printer is connected to the network and an older firmware version is detected, you will only be prompted to install the latest firmware.
