[3D Printing News] Ultimaker Cura 3.3 New Version Released!

3D Printing News】Ultimaker Cura 3.3 Released!

Ultimaker Cura 3.3 is now available.
In this special release, we've unveiled new content, optimized performance, and new features and profiles to give you the best 3D printing experience.

Update:
Ultimaker Cura 3.3.1 is now available. This update addresses several issues, including errors caused by Windows OS when the software is installed on a drive other than C:, errors generated when installing the OctoPrint plugin, and missing profiles when updating Ultimaker Cura 3.3.0.
For more information, please refer to the release article.

Introducing the Ultimaker S5

Ultimaker Cura 3.3 includes a new printer profile for our latest 3D printer, the Ultimaker S5. This printer profile is configured by our Ultimaker team and provides all the necessary settings for accurate and reliable printing on your Ultimaker S5. With the profile, printer setup and configuration are just one click away. Learn more about the Ultimaker S5.

Introducing Tough PLA

Our latest material, Tough PLA, makes it easier to print strong objects with high impact resistance. Like all material profiles included in Ultimaker Cura, our Tough PLA profile was created and extensively tested by our team of material experts. Optimized settings provide you with reliable results every time, without time-consuming trial and error.

Ultimaker S5 and Tough PLA profiles are the latest additions to the new version.
As always, Ultimaker Cura is completely free, so you can download it now to check out the latest news. Read on to learn about the features.

New Profiles

Ultimaker S5 Profile. Added a new printer profile for the Ultimaker S5.
With a large print volume of 330 x 240 x 300mm, the Ultimaker S5 is currently the largest Ultimaker 3D printer.
Tough PLA Profile. Tough PLA is a new material that offers the ease of use of PLA but with toughness and impact strength similar to ABS.

Improved UX

Updated Font. NotoSans is now the default font in Ultimaker Cura, improving readability and consistency with Cura Connect.

Print/Save Shortcut. Use Ctrl + P (Windows / Linux) or Cmd + P (Mac) to send prints from Ultimaker Cura Network to the printer. If the network is not connected to a printer, it will save to a file.

Network Transfer Confirmation. When a print job is sent to a network printer, a pop-up window confirms receipt of the job, including a button to redirect you to the Cura Connect monitor.

3D Model Assistant. Models sliced with ABS, PC, PP, or CPE+ with a footprint larger than 150 x 150 x 150 mm will display an icon and a pop-up window. If clicked, it will redirect you to a resource page on Ultimaker.com, providing detailed information on how to achieve optimal print quality and reliability.

Configure/Sync Button. Configure and Sync buttons have been added to the Printer Manager in the right panel, allowing network-connected printers to easily synchronize all available configurations in a Cura Connect group. The group host's name is automatically pulled from the API, and network and local printers are displayed separately in the list.

Plugin Browser Look and Feel. The plugin browser has been updated with a better look and feel, bringing it in line with other UI elements. Author names are clickable, opening an email for support. Installed plugins can also be uninstalled with a button.

Visibility Settings Presets. Presets guide you through the most important settings step-by-step. A small menu next to the search bar provides easy access to these new visibility presets.

Display Tooltips for Unavailable Profiles. Tooltips have been added to incompatible settings to explain why they are incompatible.

Empty Material Slot. When an Ultimaker 3 has no material, it now displays "Empty" instead of "Unknown."

Fast Duplicate Model. Adding models is now faster compared to previous versions.

Disable Auto-Slice by Default. For a better user experience, auto-slicing is now disabled by default.

Optimized Slicing Engine

New UFP Extension. UFP (Ultimaker Format Package) is a new file extension that contains compressed gcode and preview thumbnails. This extension allows for model preview on the Ultimaker S5 touchscreen and in Cura Connect (similar to the solid view in Ultimaker Cura).

Compressed Gcode. Gcode saved from Ultimaker Cura is compressed (using gzip) to save space.

Single Extrusion Mode. By disabling extruders on a dual-extrusion printer, you can print without the limitations of other extruder parameters.
To disable an extruder, right-click in the right panel and select "Disable Extruder." To re-enable, right-click and select "Enable Extruder." Print profiles are optimized for the original extruder, as well as global settings (e.g., print bed temperature), for better print quality. Single extrusion mode also enables "print one at a time" functionality for Ultimaker 3 and Ultimaker S5.

Round Prime Tower. The prime tower path has changed from square to round. This allows for smoother print nozzle operation, a stronger prime tower structure, better layer adhesion, and better print bed adhesion, reducing the chance of prime tower failure during mid-print.

Connected Infill. Grid and triangular infill patterns now have connecting lines for more stable flow, better model strength, and reduced impact on outer wall quality.

Support Blocker. Generate cubic meshes to prevent support material from being generated in specific areas of the model. Each cube can be scaled, rotated, and moved using standard adjustment tools to suit your requirements. After selecting the support blocker tool, click on the area where you want to block support generation to create the mesh. If mispositioned, click again to delete.

True Bridging. New experimental feature that detects bridges, adjusts print speed, slows down, and fan speed to improve print quality of bridging parts.

Updated CuraEngine Executable. The CuraEngine executable now includes a dedicated icon, author information, and license.

RapidJSON and ClipperLib using System Libraries. The application has been updated to use verified copies of these libraries, reducing maintenance time (now handled by the operating system) and reducing code size (as redistribution is not needed if they are already on the user's system).

Improved Print Behavior

Initial Layer Flow. Initial layer flow settings can be adjusted in the "Material" category.

Initial Travel Move Retraction. Retraction has been added to initial travel moves, reducing the chance of major blobs appearing in parts before printing the skirt/brim.

Unnecessary Retraction in Spiralize Mode. Removed layer change retractions in Spiralize mode, reducing print artifacts and improving overall model quality.

Faster Travel Path. The path order optimizer in previous versions worked by taking the shortest route from any one point to another.

When combing, the route may be longer due to obstacles. In Ultimaker Cura 3.3, the path order optimizer can use combing distance for more consistent results.

Updated Plugins

New Plugins. Three new plugins have been added; Expandable Extra Primes, Print Temperature Offset, and Fan.

Preheat Extruder. New feature allows you to preheat the extruder from the printer display.

Renamed TweakAtZ to 'ChangeAtZ'. This script has been renamed to be more consistent with other scripts.

Check Imported XML Material Profiles. XML material profiles are now checked before importing into Ultimaker Cura to avoid potential issues.

Third-Party Printers

Printer profiles and material profiles have been added for the following third-party printers:
FABtotum, Dagoma, uBuild, Cartesio, Printrbot Simple Maker's Kit 1405, SeeMeCNC, Velleman Vertex, and gMax 1.5.

Bug Fixes

Ultimaker Cura 3.3 fixes several bugs from older versions, including:
