【Vacuum Forming Application】Create Your Own Chocolate Iceberg Mold! Chocolate Master Teaches You How!
Paul A. Young is an award-winning chocolate maker known for his unique creativity, blending craftsmanship with innovative chocolate products. He and his team handcraft small-batch creations using fresh ingredients and custom molds. They collaborated with Mayku Multiplier vacuum pressure former to create a unique iceberg-shaped dessert. Let's see how it was made!

Globally Unique Design, Locally Manufactured
Unique ideas and cross-industry collaboration are highly challenging. Traditional clay prototyping methods were impractical because the entire design process had to be done remotely. Sending handcrafted images via email was inefficient. Therefore, digital manufacturing was ultimately adopted to accelerate the production process. 3D modeling software was used to design the iceberg and igloo models, allowing for rapid testing and immediate feedback. During this process, different iceberg forms were designed, and variations in shape, surface texture, and size were tested.

Creating Chocolate Art with the Latest Manufacturing Technology
Each digital manufacturing method offers a different surface finish. While a smooth finish is usually required for chocolate molds, Paul decided to go against the grain, opting for a textured final look. The iceberg model was produced using an Ultimaker FDM 3D printer. This technology allows for rapid prototyping, but FDM printing produces objects with a unique layer texture.

During prototyping, Paul noticed how well the texture produced by the mold matched the model, leading him to use an FDM 3D printer for the final master model. The main changes from the prototype model to the final version were increased wall thickness and infill density to ensure a more robust structure, making it possible to produce several molds from it.

The iceberg model was produced with FDM 3D printing, but the igloo master model was made using a different technique. Due to the smaller object size and the need for more surface detail, SLA resin 3D printing was used.
Using 3D Printing and Vacuum Forming to Press and Create Molds
Once the master model design passed several tests, a satisfactory model was obtained for final production. A high-quality master model was created for the iceberg and igloo, which could be used to produce multiple molds.

Both designs featured vertical walls and undercuts, two design characteristics often at odds with vacuum forming design principles. However, Mayku's new Flexible Sheets allow for the creation of high-quality and reusable molds. When creating molds with the Mayku Multiplier vacuum pressure former, simply make as many molds as needed. There's no need to worry about minimum order quantities or over-purchasing specialized sheets.
How to Customize Chocolate Production with the Mayku Multiplier Vacuum Pressure Former
Once the master model is complete, it can be used immediately! Unlike outsourcing production or making silicone molds, there's no waiting time. Paul filled the igloo master mold with chocolate to create candies, which were then placed on top of the iceberg.

On the other hand, the iceberg shape was quite ambitious. Paul filled the mold with tempered chocolate, removed the excess chocolate, and created a hollow iceberg shell. He then filled it with different layers of sorbet, sponge cake, and more chocolate. Once all components were assembled, the iceberg could be demolded! Properly tempered chocolate shrinks as it solidifies, meaning demolding is simpler and faster when using Mayku's flexible sheets.

How to Customize Molds with a Vacuum Former and Save Time and Cost
Custom chocolates usually require a significant amount of time and resources. Traditional mold development is slow and expensive, increasing costs and reducing profits. Traditional chocolate molds take weeks to produce, but the Mayku Multiplier vacuum pressure former allows you to complete production in days, fostering creativity and enabling quick adjustments!
We often underestimate the cost of back-and-forth communication with mold manufacturers. With the Mayku Multiplier vacuum pressure former, you can create your desired molds freely, without minimum order quantities! Creativity is no longer limited!
