[3D Printing News] Latest Cura 3.5 Released! Powerful Features and Free!

Ultimaker Cura 3.5 brings the latest features and excellent slicing performance, available for Windows, MacOS, and Linux. See how the new version offers a fast, precise 3D printing experience.

Quick Guide to What's New in Ultimaker Cura 3.5

.Hotkeys
Use hotkeys to switch between model manipulation tools for a better user experience.

.Monitor screen
Redesigned Ultimaker Cura monitor screen for greater consistency with Cura Connect.

.3MF file format

No longer using the "curaproject" extension, all Ultimaker Cura files can now be saved in 3MF format for better compatibility with other 3D software.

New User Experience

.File menu: We have changed the file menu format; "Save" now saves the file, and "Export" saves the model in a different file format.

.New tool hotkeys: Hotkeys have been assigned for quick switching between Pan (T), Scale (S), Rotate (R), and Mirror (M) tools.

.Open Recent: Your most recent files and commonly used models can now be found in the "Open Recent..." menu.

.Material Preferences: Materials can now be organized into folders, making them quickly accessible in the material selection panel in the top right corner.

.Monitor Page: The Ultimaker Cura monitor page has been redesigned to be more consistent with the "Print Jobs" interface of Cura Connect; reducing transition time and enhancing control within Ultimaker Cura.

.Save Project: Saving a project no longer re-slices, making it ideal for files that take a long time to slice!

.Slicing Enhancements
Improved Vertical Wall Handling: Automatically detects vertical walls and prints them at different speeds, without starting to print on overhangs. Printing different walls at different speeds can provide higher quality and more stable results.

.Minimum Polygon Perimeter
Sliced layer polygons with perimeters smaller than the set value will be filtered out. Smaller values create higher resolution results but increase slicing time. This setting is suitable for small-scale prints with a lot of detail or for SLA printers.

.Set Bottom Support Density
This setting allows you to increase or decrease the density of the bottom support material to adjust adhesion to the build plate and overall strength.

.Additional Infill Walls
This adds extra vertical walls around the infill area, which helps support the top/bottom surface lines to reduce sagging. This allows you to achieve the same quality with fewer top or bottom layers, but it consumes some extra material.

.Solid Prime Tower
Printing with two materials that don't adhere well can cause prime tower failures. We've repurposed the prime tower to generate a shell of one material and use it as an adhesion space for the second material. Testing shows it's stronger and more stable than before.

.Multiple Infill
Generate multiple infill lines on the same plane to make the object stronger.

.Connect Infill Polygons
Similar to connecting infill lines, polygons in the same layer can now be connected together. This feature can be used in conjunction with "Multiple Infill" and "Extra Infill" to ensure a continuous pattern for any infill pattern.

.Fan Speed Override
A new setting has been added under "Fan Speed Override" in the "Support Settings" menu to modify the fan speed in bridging areas. This is only effective when using support material.

.Minimum Wall Thickness
A new setting has been added to the "Shell" category to define the minimum value for thin shell print surfaces.

.Support Infill Line Direction
Support infill lines can now be rotated to increase support functionality and reduce imperfections on the model. This setting rotates existing patterns, such as triangular support infill.

New Plugins

.Cura Settings Guide
A detailed, searchable Cura index with images for reference.

.Custom Supports
A tool to stop automatic support generation, allowing you to manually add desired support parts by selecting sections.

.Quick Toggle Auto Slice
Added a toggle button to quickly enable/disable auto slicing.

.Version in Title Bar
Displays the version in the application's title bar for quick reference.

.External Printer Support
Added new preset files for TiZYX, Winbo, Tevo Tornado, Creality CR-10S, and Wanhao Duplicator. Settings for Deltacomb and Dacoma have also been updated.

.Bug Fixes
For better stability and performance, we have fixed various bugs in this version. This includes removing redundant M109 commands and unnecessary movements in GCODE, improving the number of extra surface constructs and the order of printed models, and more.

Thanks to smartavionics, fieldOfView, BagelOrb, Kriechi, MarmaladeForMeat, and cubic for their contributions. We would also like to especially thank all the testers who helped us provide the best user experience for this release.
