There are quite a few potted plants in 3DMart's office. Recently, we decided to give them a makeover and add some fun to the office. The first target was the cute, bald Minions!
We used the Ultimaker 3 for this project, with PLA for the main body and the super helpful PVA water-soluble support. After 2 days and 17 hours of printing, it was time for a bath!

Here's a Minion mid-bath, with a "running nose" for everyone to see. The PVA water-soluble support is hard and brittle after printing. Once placed in water, it will slowly melt as shown in the picture and can completely dissolve in water.

After cleaning, let's take a look at the finished 3D print. The naked Minion looks quite good even without further modification.

Next comes the big project of repotting. You can see the original pot on the left is a bit unsightly. We're going to transplant the plant into the cute Minion pot and give the Minion "hair". First, we need to add some new soil and mix in some of the old soil. Then, we carefully place the plant's roots, along with some soil, into the pot.

Let's see the naked Minion after repotting. It already looks much better than the original pot. But that's not enough; we're going to dress up the Minion with acrylic paints!

Since FDM 3D prints still have some layer lines, you'll need to apply several coats of acrylic paint. For those who want to try, remember to let each layer dry before applying the next for a better finish. Take your time and don't rush!

Compared to the plain 3D printed object, the painted Minion looks much more vibrant. We encourage everyone to print their favorite characters and give it a try! If you don't have a 3D printer, we also offer high-quality printing services! All the latest news will be shared on our fan page, so please stay tuned!
