Formlabs Tough Resin Series
Formlabs Tough Resin Series
High strength, good flexibility, strong elasticity, UV resistance, and durability — these excellent properties make thermoplastics an ideal manufacturing material.
3D printing resins have never been able to match the outstanding properties of thermoplastics — until today.
Introducing the next generation of Formlabs Tough Resins, a series of new high-performance materials whose properties can finally rival thermoplastics. Named after their tensile modulus, the Tough Resin series offers mechanical properties comparable to high-density polyethylene (HDPE), ABS, and polypropylene.
Tough 1000 Resin and the re-formulated Tough 2000 Resin, along with Tough 1500 Resin, form the Tough Resin Series.
These tough and durable engineering materials can withstand harsh environments, impacts, and repeated wear, while exhibiting a dark matte finish and crisp details when printed on Form 4 Series 3D printers.
▶ Why choose Tough 1000 Resin?
Tough 1000 Resin is a ductile and impact-resistant material with strength, stiffness, and toughness comparable to high-density polyethylene (HDPE), offering excellent abrasion resistance and fatigue resistance for long-term durability and usability.
With an elongation at break (EAB) of up to 180% and a Gardner impact strength of 128 in-lbs, this resin outperforms HDPE, making it ideal for parts that bend, compress, or deform without cracking. Hinges and functional parts can withstand repeated stress and wear, with a work of fracture of 3,200 J/m² and exceeding 100,000 cycles in the Ross flex fatigue test (23°C). Tough 1000 Resin has a matte dark grey finish and is designed for applications requiring smooth surfaces and low friction.
Tough 1000 Resin is a new material formulation that leverages the technology of Form 4 Series printers, offering 5 times greater fracture toughness, 2 times greater EAB, and improved temperature resistance, creep resistance, and aging resistance compared to Durable Resin.
Durable and Ductile
With 180% elongation at break and 128 in-lbs Gardner impact strength, superior to HDPE, it is suitable for durable housings and components that can withstand significant impact.
Excellent Fatigue Resistance and Toughness
Produce jigs, fixtures, and functional parts that can withstand repeated stress and wear, with a work of fracture of 3,200 J/m² and over 100,000 Ross flex fatigue cycles (30-degree deflection at 1 Hz).
Environmentally Stable Parts for End-Use Applications
Improved temperature resistance, creep resistance, and aging resistance compared to Durable Resin. Parts are less prone to warping and sagging at corners.
Low Friction and Abrasion Resistance
Comparable lubricity to Polyoxymethylene (POM), suitable for surfaces that slide against each other without causing wear or scratches. Ideal for moving components such as hinges, gears, and clamps.
You might consider Tough 1000 Resin for:
- Parts requiring the strength and stiffness of high-density polyethylene (HDPE).
- Impact-resistant jigs and fixtures for long-term use on the factory floor.
- Flexible mechanisms capable of withstanding repeated bending.
- Low-friction components and non-degrading surfaces (e.g., spherical joints).
▶ Why choose Tough 1500 Resin V2?
Tough 1500 Resin V2 is a resilient material with strength, stiffness, and toughness comparable to polypropylene (PP), offering excellent resistance to fracture, impact, and shattering.
From flexible mechanisms to robust enclosures with self-tapping screws and snap fits, Tough 1500 Resin V2 produces parts that combine stiffness and ductility, suitable for a wide range of applications from functional prototypes to end-use jigs and fixtures.
Tough 1500 Resin V2 is a new material formulation that leverages Form 4 Series technology, with 10 times greater fracture toughness than its predecessor.
Tougher when it matters most
With 10 times greater work of fracture, parts won't fail when drilled, tapped, or cracked. 3 times greater Gardner impact strength prevents thin walls from cracking.
Ductile and Resilient for Durable Flexible Parts
Extremely high elongation at break (155%) and Ross flex fatigue test (8,000 cycles) for features like snap fits and flexible mechanisms.
High Environmental Stability for Demanding Applications
Among all highly compliant (>100% EAB) SLA materials, it boasts the highest temperature resistance and UV stability (66°C HDT and approximately 30.4% EAB after 400 hours of accelerated aging).
Strong and Durable Parts That Won't Deform Over Time
High creep resistance comparable to polypropylene, with less than 3% strain after 2 weeks under a 4 MPa load.
Consider Tough 1500 Resin V2 for:
- Prototypes requiring the toughness, flexibility, and resilience of polypropylene.
- Robust enclosures with functional elements like self-tapping screw bosses and snap fits.
- Impact-resistant jigs and fixtures for long-term use on the factory floor.
- Parts requiring both stiffness and ductility for flexible mechanisms such as latches, living hinges, and dampers.
▶ Why choose Tough 2000 Resin V2?
Tough 2000 Resin V2 is a strong and durable material with strength and stiffness comparable to ABS, combining toughness, high temperature resistance, and creep resistance.
Tough 2000 Resin V2 excels in heavy-duty applications, producing robust prototypes and end-use parts that resist shattering, deformation, and long-term wear.
With an elongation at break of up to 79% and a heat deflection temperature (HDT) of 70°C, parts maintain structural integrity even under mechanical and environmental stress. The new formulation features a darker color and a matte surface finish, enhancing part details and providing a smooth, display-ready surface.
Tough 2000 Resin V2 is a new material formulation that leverages the technology of Form 4 Series printers, with 3 times greater fracture toughness, improved temperature resistance, material lifespan, and aesthetics compared to its previous version.

Tougher when it matters most
Manufacture strong snap-fit assemblies and robust parts with an elongation at break of 79% and a work of fracture of 305 J/m², 3 times higher than the previous generation.
Excellent Creep Resistance
Produce jigs, structural components, and load-bearing parts that resist long-term deformation, with a creep strain of only 1.3% after two weeks under a 4 MPa load.
Production-Ready Surface Quality and Fine Feature Performance
A darker, more matte finish and enhanced scratch resistance improve contrast, making it ideal for prototypes and end-use parts with crisp features and smooth surfaces.
High Environmental Stability for End-Use Applications
A heat deflection temperature (HDT) of 70°C at 0.45 MPa ensures reliable operation at elevated temperatures, allowing functional parts to maintain their shape where other plastics might deform.
