PolyLite™ LW-PLA Series - 1.75mm
PolyLite™ LW-PLA Series - 1.75mm — Available in eight colors: black, white, grey, bright red, bright green, bright yellow, bright orange, and wood.
PolyLite™ LW-PLA is a special foamed PLA designed to print with settings similar to regular PLA, but with only half the weight of ordinary PLA.
What is the difference between active foaming and passive foaming?
PolyLite™ LW-PLA is not an actively foaming filament, meaning it does not foam due to temperature when extruded from the nozzle. PolyLite™ LW-PLA is already a pre-foamed material.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of active foaming versus passive foaming?
-
Active foaming:
Requires extensive adjustment of temperature and print settings to compensate for material expansion during printing.
Requires very high temperatures (around 250℃) to achieve a lightweight effect, but high temperatures can cause printing defects such as stringing and blotches.
While it can achieve lighter prints than passive foaming, it may be accompanied by severe stringing defects. -
Passive foaming:
Does not require changes to general PLA print settings (only a slight increase in retraction is needed), and provides a lightweight effect at lower temperatures (around 190℃).
Lower temperatures result in better print quality.
Is PolyLite™ LW-PLA suitable for RC planes?
Yes, PolyLite™ LW-PLA is designed for easy printing and toughness, making it very suitable for this purpose.
What is the difference between PolyLite™ LW-PLA and PolyWood™?
There's essentially no difference! The wood-colored LW-PLA is actually the same product as PolyWood™.
How to reduce stringing?
Both LW-PLA and PolyWood™ materials are prone to stringing. Here are some suggestions:
- Use a print temperature of 190℃ (print speed 50mm/s)
- Employ maximum travel speed
- Coasting distance around 0.5mm, wipe distance around 1mm (varies by machine model)
- Coasting and wiping actions are usually the most effective control methods
Can the spool be used in an AMS (Automatic Material System)?
Yes! We have redesigned the spool edges, and all Polymaker products can now rotate smoothly in an AMS.
